How Much Does LASIK Cost?
If you start searching for laser eye surgery, you will immediately find LASIK. This procedure corrects common vision problems such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. It is the most widely performed type of laser eye surgery. While some people are tempted to look for the least expensive place to get LASIK, you should choose your provider based on skill, technology, and experience, not cost.
What is LASIK?
LASIK is a type of laser eye surgery that works by reshaping the clear outer layer of your eye called the cornea. This layer helps focus light as it enters your eye, ensuring that a clear image forms. Refractive errors like nearsightedness occur when light does not focus correctly.
LASIK corrects refractive errors by using a laser to change the shape of your cornea. It works so effectively that many people no longer need their glasses or contact lenses. This procedure takes 15 to 20 minutes and can have life-changing effects.
How Does LASIK Work?
Dr. Wu will numb your eyes with drops before beginning your LASIK procedure. You will also have the option of a mild sedative. A laser is used to create a flap on the surface of your cornea. Dr. Wu then lifts back this flap and uses a second laser to precisely reshape your cornea to correct your unique eye prescription, much like a 3D printer.
How Much Does LASIK Cost?
Laser eye surgery costs vary widely, with some providers offering discounts or special financing to attract attention. To find out whether the eye surgeon you are considering meets these criteria:
- They are board-certified
- They have additional fellowship training for refractive surgery (LASIK)
- They have extensive experience performing LASIK
- They have positive reviews from many happy patients
- They answer all your questions openly and honestly
- They make you feel comfortable and involved in your care
The average cost of LASIK ranges from $1,000 to $4,000 per eye. Factors affecting this cost include your location and your surgeon’s reputation and skill. Dr. Wu and her team will make you feel confident in your decision to trust your eyes to them.

How Long Does it Take to Recover From LASIK?
Your vision will be blurry for a few hours after your procedure, so arrange for someone to drive you home. Your eyes may feel irritated and dry the first day. You will receive medicated eye drops that make these effects less bothersome. Most people can return to work within a day or two. You will need to avoid dusty environments, eye makeup and rubbing your eyes for two to three days. You can return to your usual activities after a few days.
Am I a Good Candidate for LASIK?
LASIK is an excellent choice for many people, but not everyone. Good candidates for LASIK:
- Are 18 or older
- Have healthy eyes
- Have a prescription in the range that LASIK can treat
- Have had a stable prescription
People with a history of dry eye problems are not usually recommended for LASIK. Other procedures have a lower risk of worsening this problem. People with thin, weak, or abnormally shaped corneas are also better candidates for other procedures.
