Welcome to One EyeCare LASIK!

Your eyes deserve an ophthalmologist in Costa Mesa who sees you as more than just another appointment on a packed schedule. Dr. Jennifer Wu, MD leads One EyeCare LASIK with a philosophy that’s refreshingly different from typical eye care centers in Orange County. As a board-certified, fellowship-trained cornea specialist with Yale credentials and over a decade of experience, she’s built her practice around what patients actually want: real answers, genuine attention, and solutions that work for complex situations.

If you’ve been told “no” to vision correction elsewhere, struggle with corneal disease, or simply want comprehensive eye exams from someone who won’t rush you out the door in 15 minutes, you’ve found the right place. Dr. Wu specializes in the challenging cases other surgeons decline, uses the most advanced technology available, and brings a personal touch that’s rare in modern healthcare.

Meet Our Doctor

Dr. Jennifer Wu is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained cornea specialist who brings Yale-level education and Doheny Eye Institute training to Orange County. After graduating from Yale University in 2005 and Yale School of Medicine in 2009, she completed her ophthalmology residency at the renowned Doheny Eye Institute in 2013. For over a decade, she’s specialized in corneal disease, laser vision correction, cataract surgery, and complex eye conditions that other surgeons decline.

Dr. Wu is trilingual (fluent in English, Spanish, and Mandarin) so she can communicate directly with more patients in their first language. As a female surgeon-mompreneur and the only 100% female and minority-owned practice in Orange County offering all five types of vision correction, she brings a unique perspective to eye care. When she’s not in the operating room, you’ll find her playing tennis, skiing, or traveling internationally with her family.

Patient Testimonials

It has been just under 1 year since my SMILE operation with Dr. Jennifer Wu, and I only have positive things to say. Throughout the consultation process, she was incredibly patient and answered every single question I had (and I had a lot) with kindness & competence. Beyond being incredibly qualified (and operating with the newest equipment), Dr. Wu explained every step of the surgery, recovery best practices, etc. Ten months later, I cannot believe I waited so long to do the procedure - best decision.

Alex W.SMILE operation

Dr. Wu and her team are amazing! I just had the EVO ICL surgery last month and am glad I went ahead with the procedure since I didn’t qualify for LASIK. She was very informative with my options and I didn’t feel pressured to make a decision right away. I can see much better than when I had to wear glasses. Thank you!

Christina C.I didn’t qualify for LASIK

I came to Dr. Wu after getting turned down for LASIK. She gave me alternative options for corrective eye surgery and from first consult to post up she was a great pleasure to work with. She seems to care a great deal about her patients and is very understanding of all the nerves involved in the process.

Jessica L.Turned down for LASIK

Dr Wu and her staff are very professional. She explained the whole lens replacement surgery to me very thoroughly. My surgery went great with no side effects. My vision is the best it has ever been. I recommend her to anyone in need if her services.

Tom S.Lens replacement surgery

Great experience overall with both the staff and the procedure. I had PRK done on both eyes and although the recovery took some time, I ended up improving my vision to 20/15! It’s great to no longer need glasses & it has improved my quality of life tremendously. Definitely recommend One EyeCare for any vision correction needs!

Osvaldo A.I had PRK done

I love the staff at One Eye Care. Everyone is super nice and helpful at this place. At every one of my visits, I was treated with lots care and respect. Lasik surgery was painless and fast. My recovery time was easy and I am extremely happy with my results. I am glad I chose to have Lasik surgery done at One Eye Care. Dr. Wu is the best. She is very caring and talented. I am so grateful to everyone at One Eye Care for their wonderful work. A million thanks to everyone here, for allowing me to have such a positive experience. Most importantly, for giving me my vision back without having to wear my unwanted old eyeglasses.

Eileen H.Lasik surgery

I went in for a SMILE consult with Dr. Wu in April 2024 because she was one of the few physicians offering the procedure in the area. During the 1-hour consult (which was free!), she recommended ICL instead due to my high diopter and tendency to eye dryness. She clearly explained the pros/cons for each procedure and patiently answered all my questions. I decided to move forward with ICL (I got the Toric version which also corrects for astigmatism) and I'm very happy with the decision!

Christopher K.ICL Surgery

The team at One EyeCare is wonderful. They are friendly and personable, while providing excellent care. I was impressed with their due diligence in determining my Lasik treatment plan including whether or not I qualified for it. Spoiler alert, I did qualify for it and the surgery went great. I have perfect vision now.

Experience Life Without Reading Glasses Through Refractive Lens Exchange

Are you tired of constantly searching for reading glasses just to check your phone or read a menu? Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) offers a permanent solution that goes beyond traditional corrective methods. We replace your natural lenses with advanced artificial implants, restoring clear vision at multiple distances.

This procedure works particularly well for patients over 50 who experience presbyopia or have high refractive errors that make LASIK unsuitable. Our ophthalmologist uses precision laser technology to perform this safe, effective surgery that takes less than 30 minutes per eye.

Who Is a Candidate for Refractive Lens Exchange?

RLE is best suited for adults 50 and older who depend on reading glasses or bifocals. Those with early cataract changes are a particularly good fit, since the procedure removes the natural lens before cataracts can develop further.

What Does the Refractive Lens Exchange Process Involve?

Dr. Wu removes the eye’s natural lens through a small incision and replaces it with a customized IOL. Most patients receive a multifocal lens designed to support vision at multiple distances. The procedure takes about 15 to 20 minutes per eye and requires no sutures.

Where Does Refractive Lens Exchange Fit Into Your Treatment Plan?

The procedure is performed in-office at One EyeCare LASIK in Costa Mesa. Each eye is typically treated in a separate appointment spaced a few days apart. Follow-up visits confirm healing and lens position in the weeks that follow.

When Is the Right Time to Consider Refractive Lens Exchange?

The clearest signal is growing dependence on readers paired with a prescription or age profile that makes laser surgery a poor fit. Many patients in their late 40s with high prescriptions find earlier intervention worthwhile for that reason alone.

Why Refractive Lens Exchange Over the Alternatives?

For patients over 50, RLE corrects near, intermediate, and distance vision in a single procedure. No laser surgery offers that combination. It is the most comprehensive long-term vision solution available for patients at this life stage.

Discover Revolutionary Vision Correction with EVO ICL

Active individuals often find glasses and traditional contact lenses limiting during sports, swimming, or outdoor adventures. EVO ICL provides a groundbreaking alternative by placing a specialized lens inside your eye rather than on its surface. This procedure works exceptionally well for patients with moderate to severe nearsightedness or astigmatism who may not qualify for LASIK.

The implantable collamer lens sits discreetly between your iris and natural lens, delivering sharp vision without daily maintenance. Our ophthalmologist completes this additive procedure in just 15-20 minutes per eye, preserving your natural corneal tissue while dramatically improving how you see the world.

Who Is a Candidate for EVO ICL?

Ideal candidates are adults between 21 and 45 with stable myopia or astigmatism. Patients excluded from LASIK due to thin corneas, dry eye, or a high prescription are often well suited. Athletes and anyone in high-contact activities are also strong candidates, since no flap is created and no tissue is removed.

What Does the EVO ICL Process Involve?

Dr. Wu inserts the collamer lens through a small corneal incision and positions it between the iris and the natural lens. It remains invisible once in place and requires no maintenance. The procedure takes 15 to 20 minutes per eye, and most patients see dramatic improvement within 24 hours.

Where Does EVO ICL Fit Into Your Treatment Plan?

EVO ICL is performed in-office at One EyeCare LASIK in Costa Mesa. Both eyes can be treated on the same day if preferred. Follow-up appointments are scheduled at one day, one week, and one month after surgery.

When Is the Right Time to Consider EVO ICL?

EVO ICL is best pursued once your prescription has been stable for at least one year. It is most appropriate before age-related lens changes make refractive lens exchange a better fit, typically before the mid-40s. Because the implant is fully reversible, it can be removed or exchanged at any future point.

Why EVO ICL Over the Alternatives?

EVO ICL adds corrective power without permanently changing the cornea. That means no dry eye from nerve disruption and no tissue removed. For patients who do not qualify for laser surgery, it is the most effective path to glasses-free vision available.

What Makes SMILE a Game-Changer for Nearsighted Patients

Nearsightedness affects millions of people under 40, creating daily frustrations with glasses slipping during workouts or contacts drying out by evening. SMILE eye surgery offers a minimally invasive solution that corrects myopia and astigmatism using just one laser and a tiny incision. This advanced technique reshapes your cornea by removing a small disc of tissue without creating a flap, reducing recovery time and post-procedure dryness.

The entire process takes only minutes per eye, yet delivers lasting results that free you from dependence on corrective lenses. Our ophthalmologist uses the advanced Zeiss SMILE Laser VM800. This makes One EyeCare LASIK the first practice in California to offer this new technology for patients who want sharper, clearer vision.

Who Is a Candidate for SMILE?

SMILE is FDA-approved for adults 22 and older with nearsightedness and myopic astigmatism up to -10.00 diopters. Candidates must have stable vision and healthy corneas. It is particularly well suited for athletes and those in physically demanding roles, and it is not appropriate for patients with farsightedness.

What Does the SMILE Process Involve?

A single femtosecond laser creates a small disc of corneal tissue just beneath the surface. Dr. Wu removes it through a tiny incision, reshaping the cornea without ever creating a flap. The procedure takes about 10 minutes per eye, and the minimal incision significantly reduces disruption to corneal nerves.

Where Does SMILE Fit Into Your Treatment Plan?

SMILE is performed in a single in-office visit at One EyeCare LASIK in Costa Mesa. Most patients return to normal activities the following day. Post-operative appointments are scheduled at 24 hours, one week, and one month.

When Is the Right Time to Consider SMILE?

SMILE is best pursued once your myopic prescription has been stable for at least one year. It is most effective for patients in their 20s through early 40s. If dry eye has been a concern with LASIK candidacy, SMILE’s reduced nerve disruption makes it a strong alternative to evaluate.

Why SMILE Over the Alternatives?

SMILE produces vision outcomes comparable to LASIK while causing measurably less post-operative dry eye. The smaller incision and reduced nerve involvement are the key advantages. For nearsighted patients who prioritize a minimally invasive approach, SMILE is the more advanced option.

Understanding PRK as Your Path to Clearer Vision

Many patients dream of freedom from glasses and contacts but discover they don’t qualify for LASIK due to thin corneas or participation in contact sports. PRK surgery is a good alternative. It corrects nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism by reshaping your cornea with laser technology.

This procedure works particularly well for martial artists, boxers, and other athletes whose activities involve potential eye trauma. Our ophthalmologist removes the thin outer layer of your cornea before using a pre-programmed laser to correct your refractive errors, then place a protective bandage lens while you heal. The surgery itself takes only 15-20 minutes for both eyes, and most patients achieve 20/20 vision or better once fully recovered.

Who Is a Candidate for PRK?

PRK is best suited for adults 18 and older with myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism who are excluded from LASIK due to thin corneas or dry eye. Patients who practice martial arts or compete in high-contact sports are also strong candidates. There is no corneal flap involved, so there is no risk of flap-related injury from physical activity.

What Does the PRK Process Involve?

Dr. Wu gently removes the corneal epithelium before applying the excimer laser to reshape the underlying tissue. The epithelium regenerates naturally over the following week. The refractive outcome is equivalent to LASIK, though the recovery takes longer.

Where Does PRK Fit Into Your Treatment Plan?

PRK is performed in-office at One EyeCare LASIK in Costa Mesa in a single procedure visit. Full visual recovery unfolds over one to three months. Patients should plan for about a week away from work and a longer activity restriction compared to LASIK or SMILE.

When Is the Right Time to Consider PRK?

PRK is appropriate once your prescription is stable and a full eye health evaluation has been completed. It is especially relevant when prior screenings have flagged thin corneas or dry eye that ruled out other laser options. The longer recovery is often worth it for patients with limited alternatives.

Why PRK Over the Alternatives?

For patients with thin corneas or active lifestyles, PRK is not a compromise. It is the clinically preferred choice. It eliminates flap complications entirely while delivering long-term visual outcomes equal to LASIK.

Preventing Long-Term Damage from Dry Eyes

Constant eye irritation affects more than just your comfort—it puts you at risk for corneal damage, infections, and potential vision loss if left untreated. Dry eyes stem from various underlying causes, from blocked oil glands to hormonal changes, and treating symptoms alone with standard eye drops rarely solves the problem.

Our ophthalmologist takes a different approach by identifying why your tears fail to lubricate properly, then addressing that root cause directly. Many patients come to us after finding no success elsewhere, and we help them finally break free from the cycle of temporary fixes that never truly resolve their discomfort.

Who Is a Candidate for Dry Eye Treatment?

Anyone experiencing persistent burning, irritation, fluctuating vision, or a gritty sensation may be dealing with dry eye disease. It is also a common disqualifying factor for laser vision correction. Proper diagnosis and treatment is an important first step for anyone considering LASIK or SMILE.

What Does the Dry Eye Treatment Process Involve?

Dr. Chun specializes in building customized dry eye protocols based on each patient’s tear film profile and ocular surface health. Treatment may include prescription drops, in-office procedures, meibomian gland therapy, or a combination of approaches. The focus is always on addressing the source of the problem, not just the symptoms.

Where Does Dry Eye Treatment Fit Into Your Treatment Plan?

Dry eye care at One EyeCare LASIK is fully integrated into the practice’s broader treatment model. Dr. Wu and Dr. Chun coordinate directly when dry eye intersects with surgical candidacy or post-operative recovery. All management takes place in-office at our Costa Mesa location.

When Is the Right Time to Consider Dry Eye Treatment?

The right time is before symptoms become severe enough to affect vision or quality of life. It is especially important to address dry eye before pursuing any laser vision correction procedure. Patients who work in screen-heavy environments or have recently had LASIK are also strong candidates for a proactive evaluation.

Why Seek Dry Eye Treatment Over Self-Managing?

Over-the-counter artificial tears provide temporary relief but do not treat the underlying dysfunction driving chronic dry eye. Targeted intervention is necessary to prevent progressive damage to the ocular surface. Dr. Chun’s customized protocols are built to meet that standard.

How Keratoconus Treatment Preserves Your Vision for the Future

Progressive corneal thinning and bulging create serious challenges for patients diagnosed with keratoconus, often leaving them dependent on uncomfortable hard contact lenses or facing declining vision quality. This degenerative condition typically emerges during your teens or twenties and worsens over time without proper intervention. Corneal cross-linking stands as the most effective method for stopping keratoconus progression, strengthening your cornea by creating new bonds between collagen fibers.

Our ophthalmologist specializes in combining cross-linking with advanced vision correction techniques, including custom PRK and EVO ICL implantation, to both halt disease advancement and dramatically improve your visual clarity. This comprehensive approach at One EyeCare LASIK gives you the best possible outcomes for maintaining healthy eyes and reducing your reliance on specialized contact lenses.

Who Is a Candidate for Keratoconus Treatment?

Anyone diagnosed with keratoconus at any stage is a candidate for evaluation. Even early-stage disease benefits from cross-linking to prevent further thinning and distortion. Patients with irregular corneas who have been told they cannot have standard vision correction are also encouraged to consult with Dr. Wu.

What Does the Keratoconus Treatment Process Involve?

Corneal cross-linking applies riboflavin drops to the corneal surface followed by controlled UVA light exposure. This creates new bonds between collagen fibers to structurally strengthen the cornea. Depending on the stage of disease, Dr. Wu may combine cross-linking with topography-guided PRK, EVO ICL, or CTAK cornea transplant to improve uncorrected vision at the same time.

Where Does Keratoconus Treatment Fit Into Your Treatment Plan?

All keratoconus procedures are performed and managed in-office at One EyeCare in Costa Mesa. The sequence of interventions is determined by disease stage and corneal measurements taken at evaluation. Corneal mapping is repeated at regular intervals before any vision correction procedure is added.

When Is the Right Time to Consider Keratoconus Treatment?

The most important signal is a recent diagnosis or any evidence of progression, including a worsening prescription or increasing astigmatism. Cross-linking is most effective when performed early, before significant thinning occurs. Patients in their teens and twenties should seek evaluation promptly, as progression is typically fastest during these years.

Why Treat Keratoconus Rather Than Manage It?

Glasses and contact lenses compensate for distorted vision but do nothing to stop the structural deterioration causing it. Only corneal cross-linking has been shown to halt keratoconus progression. Acting early protects the cornea and expands the vision correction options available down the road.

FAQ for Vision Correction Surgery

What makes Dr. Wu different from other ophthalmologists in Orange County?

Dr. Wu is a fellowship-trained cornea specialist who offers all five vision correction procedures and meets personally with every patient at their first consultation in full one-hour blocks. She’s had vision correction herself and performed it on her own family, demonstrating complete confidence in her procedures.

Why choose a boutique practice like One EyeCare LASIK?

Large, high-volume centers focus on speed and numbers, Dr. Wu focuses on outcomes. At One EyeCare LASIK, you’ll meet directly with your surgeon, receive personalized recommendations, and experience concierge-level support from a dedicated team that knows you by name.

What makes a cornea specialist different from a general ophthalmologist?

A cornea specialist has advanced fellowship training focused on diseases, injuries, and surgeries involving the cornea and front part of the eye. While all ophthalmologists perform eye surgery, a cornea specialist like Dr. Wu has additional expertise in complex vision correction, dry eye management, and surgical complications, making her the doctor other surgeons refer their toughest cases to.

What advanced technology does the practice use for procedures?

Our ophthalmologist uses the Zeiss SMILE Laser VM800 (she was California’s first), femtosecond lasers for precise corneal tissue work, and the ORA System for real-time surgical measurements. For dry eye treatment, the practice offers Lumenis IPL, BlephEx, and TearCare systems for comprehensive relief.

What conditions does Dr. Wu treat beyond vision correction?

Our ophthalmologist treats corneal diseases like keratoconus with crosslinking, severe dry eye with IPL therapy, complex cataract surgery, and autoimmune eye diseases. Dr. Jennifer Wu’s fellowship training in cornea makes her skilled at managing complicated conditions, and she’s completed over 500 corneal transplants.

What is the cornea?

The cornea is the clear, dome-shaped surface at the front of your eye that focuses light and plays a major role in how well you see. Because it’s responsible for most of your eye’s focusing power, even small irregularities can cause blurred or distorted vision. As a cornea specialist, Dr. Wu is uniquely trained to diagnose and treat these complex issues with precision.

Am I a candidate for LASIK?

LASIK is one of several vision correction options, but it’s not right for everyone. Factors like corneal thickness, age, and prescription strength determine which procedure is safest and most effective. The good news is that Dr. Wu offers five advanced options: LASIK, SMILE, PRK, EVO ICL, and RLE, so even if you’ve been told no, she can STILL help you achieve clear vision.

Does Dr. Wu accept patients who've been told they're not candidates for LASIK?

Absolutely—this is Dr. Wu’s specialty. Our ophthalmologist often helps patients turned down elsewhere due to thin corneas, high prescriptions, dry eyes, or previous eye surgeries. With all five vision correction options and advanced technology, she can safely help patients who were told “no” by other practices.

What if I’ve been told I’m not a candidate for LASIK?

Technology has evolved. Many patients who were once told they couldn’t have LASIK now qualify for other advanced procedures like EVO ICL or RLE. Dr. Wu’s practice specializes in finding the right solution for each patient rather than forcing a one-size-fits-all approach.

What’s the difference between LASIK and SMILE?

Both procedures reshape the cornea to improve how light focuses on the retina, but they use different techniques. LASIK creates a thin flap in the cornea, while SMILE uses a smaller incision and removes a tiny disc of tissue within the cornea. SMILE is a great option for patients with dry eyes and active lifestyles.

Is vision correction surgery safe?

Yes. When performed by an experienced surgeon using modern technology, vision correction procedures are extremely safe and deliver predictable results. Dr. Wu has performed these surgeries for over a decade and even had vision correction herself, so she speaks from both professional and personal experience.

Where is the practice located and what are the business hours?
