Best Vision Correction Treatments for People in Their 40s

As you enter your 40s, a number of eye prescriptions cause blurry vision and require the use of glasses or contacts to see clearly, such as hyperopia, astigmatism, and presbyopia. Age-related changes begin to affect your eyes around the age of 40, and these changes will progress over time. You want LASIK, but you’ve been told ‘No.’ Could there still be a way to see without those glasses and contacts you hate? LASIK is NOT your only option for vision correction.

Did you know that there are five different procedures that get people out of glasses, contacts, readers, and bifocals? Dr. Wu offers all 5 vision correction procedures, so you can make the right choice for your eyes, not just LASIK. We specialize in finding the best treatment for your needs, giving you the safest, most effective, longest-lasting results.

Vision Correction Treatments for People in Their 40s

If you’re over 40 and readers are NOT part of your aesthetic, you’re about to do a happy dance: we have options for you! Everyone will eventually develop presbyopia, which is the reason many adults in this age range start wearing reading glasses. This change occurs when your lenses lose flexibility over time. These changes will affect your vision, even if you have previous vision correction treatment.

LASIK

Laser eye surgery, such as LASIK, works well for a wide range of eye prescriptions. LASIK works by reshaping your cornea to help light focus better. The cornea is the major part of the light-focusing system in your eyes, but age-related affects that start in your 40s are the result of changing flexibility in your natural lenses.

Monovision LASIK

People who want to ditch reading glasses but prefer laser eye surgery, may benefit from monovision LASIK. This procedure works in the same way as standard LASIK, except the laser corrects one eye for distance and one eye for up-close vision. We require a contact lens trial to ensure our brain will adapt to this change in vision. However, once you have adjusted, you will enjoy freedom from reading glasses. This treatment option does not prevent changes such as cataracts.

EVO Visian ICL

Have you been told you have astigmatism, thin corneas, dry eye, or something that keeps you from having LASIK? While many people assume that laser eye surgery is the only option for vision correction, an advanced technology implantable contact lens, called the EVO ICL is an alternative to LASIK. The biocompatible implant is placed inside the eye in the space behind the colored part of the eye (iris) and over your natural lens. You cannot see or feel the lens.

The advantages of EVO ICL include you can see more clearly almost immediately and can treat stronger nearsighted prescriptions than LASIK, although it does not treat farsightedness. This procedure is reversible and leaves your corneas intact. This option does not prevent changes such as cataracts.
