Everything You Need to Know About EVO ICL Surgery

Smiling man and woman experiencing improved eyesight and visual freedom following implantable lens treatment – EVO ICL Procedure

The EVO ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) is an advanced, FDA-approved solution designed to correct vision problems like nearsightedness and astigmatism. Unlike LASIK, which creates a flap and reshapes the cornea, the EVO ICL is a vision-correcting lens implanted inside the eye, positioned between the iris and the natural lens. Made from biocompatible Collamer® material, this lens offers a comfortable and effective alternative to traditional laser eye surgery.

Everything You Need to Know About EVO ICL Surgery

EVO ICL surgery is a LASIK alternative procedure that provides long-lasting vision correction with minimal risk for dry eye and suitable for people with a high prescription, thin corneas, or participate in contact sports. The process typically takes less than 30 minutes per eye and is performed under local anesthesia, so you can go home the same day.

The EVO ICL Procedure

During the procedure, a small incision is made in the cornea to insert the lens into the eye, and it works seamlessly with your eye’s natural structure to improve focus and clarity. One of the key benefits of EVO ICL is its ability to offer high-quality vision correction without removing or altering the corneal tissue.

Recovery After EVO ICL Surgery

After the surgery, most patients experience rapid visual recovery with minimal discomfort. Many patients notice significant improvements in their vision within a day or two, and full recovery usually occurs within 5 days. Follow-up visits with Dr. Wu and the One EyeCare LASIK team ensure everything is healing well and that you are achieving optimal results.

Benefits of EVO ICL Surgery

The EVO ICL offers several unique benefits over traditional laser eye surgery, especially for individuals with higher prescriptions, thin corneas, dry eyes or irregular corneas. Since the procedure does not reshape the cornea, the risks of complications like dry eyes or glare are significantly reduced. Moreover, the lens can be removed or replaced if necessary, making it a flexible and reversible option for future changes in vision.

How long does an EVO ICL last?

EVO ICL lenses are designed for long-term use, and most patients can expect their lenses to last for many years. Unlike glasses or contact lenses, the EVO ICL works continuously to provide clear vision. The lens can remain in the eye for a lifetime, making it a durable and effective solution for vision correction. Regular eye exams with Dr. Wu and her team are crucial in monitoring the health of your eyes and ensuring your vision stays sharp for years to come.

Am I a good candidate for an evo ICL implantable lens?

EVO ICL surgery is an ideal solution for many individuals with refractive vision problems. However, not everyone is a candidate. To determine whether the EVO ICL is right for you, Dr. Wu will assess your overall eye health, prescription, and specific vision needs. Generally, candidates should be over 21 years old and have stable vision for at least one year.

For those over the age of 46, refractive lens exchange (RLE) may be a consideration. RLE involves removing the eye’s natural lens and replacing it with a synthetic one to correct presbyopia, a condition related to aging that affects near vision. RLE can be an excellent option for those with significant presbyopia or early cataracts who are seeking a permanent solution to their vision concerns.

Whether EVO ICL or RLE is the right option for you, Dr. Wu will guide you through the decision-making process, helping you choose the most appropriate treatment to meet your long-term vision goals.
